Health & Well-Being

This focus area takes a broad view of the factors necessary for physical, mental, and social wellness. This Health and Well-being Work Group will consider policy and programmatic interventions in perennially-discussed sectors such as health care access/provision, public health, and mental health. Analyses may entail a review of structures of welfare and social service programs to understand where services can be improved or transformed to better address the needs of Memphis residents that have been disproportionately harmed by racial bias, racialized trauma, and systemic disinvestment. This group will also examine catalyzing systems with real potential impact across all focus areas, such as local food and agriculture.

Update: Spring 2023
The approach to engaging the community and obtaining feedback has been primarily focused on leveraging the extensive network of the organizations of our focus area. We have 15 core workgroup members who convene twice a month and participate in guided conversations about the challenges impacting the field more severely. In addition, all workgroup members are tasked to serve as representatives of the focus area to gather and report feedback from their respective communities and spheres of influence. We have a dedicated group participating in the Equity & Results development process who ensure we are using the suggested framework in developing solutions. Approximately 10 of our 15 focus area workgroup members have been trained as ACE's train the trainer model, hosted three ACES training and trained 60 people, including community residents and professionals.
