Community members share their thoughts on the issues facing their neighborhoods and potential solutions.

High Ground News recently covered the effort behind organizing the More For Memphis initiative, a plan to enhance economic mobility within Memphis and Shelby County, with a particular focus on improving opportunities for Black and brown communities.

The plan is set to be officially published this spring, and we hope to encourage further community engagement beyond this planning process, which involved over 300 local organizations and community members from March 2022 to May 2023. Collaboration among so many stakeholders is challenging, but incredibly necessary and rewarding.

“From the beginning, I was impressed and motivated by the size and scope of the planning process that was being developed and its potential to improve lives and outcomes for Memphians. Memphis is not new to developing strategic plans, so it was important for us to be thoughtful of how this process would be different and actionable.” — Jamilica Burke, chief strategy and impact officer of Seeding Success.
